The Maple phone is the creation of a Korean team Hyun Jin Yoon and Eun Hak Lee, and it definitely challenges the notion that all our phones must be made of plastic. The phone also has touch sensitive keypads and even has a camera.
Well, with those features, it can’t be completely made of wood. I just can’t imagine how the touchpad keys work on the wooden frame.
However, since wood is a very natural and renewable resource, I can see it being used for very environmental purposes. However, why stop there? Let’s make some wooden plasma screens, laptops, or MP3 Players.
Well, we will see where this goes. Right now, it looks more like a block of wood with some red numbers taped to it, along with a big sticker for a screen. The image on the right with the “keyboard” looks like a projection made by a laser.
A better predictor might be this innovative Window Phone (not to be confused with the Windows phone). The translucent touch-screen device by designer Seunghan Song promises accurate weather predictions. But especially excellent is that it would simulate the current climate on its display with, say, a clear screen on a sunny day, virtual drops on a rainy day, and a frosty veneer when it snows.
You'll note from the photos that the concept phone doesn't have any keys; images show a user blowing on it to switch the phone into handwriting mode for dialing and messaging. The blowing could get tiresome pretty quick, and we have some other questions as well (will the battery obscure the sleek, transparent design? where will real-time, accurate data come from?). Overall, though, we think this is a very cool design--even on a hot day.
The LG Flutter will have an opportunity to be featured in a future blockbuster movie. The device opens up like a fan, as you can see in the image above and has a flexible OLED touch screen display that scrolls radically.
The Philips Fluid Smartphone designed by Brazilian designer Dinard da Mata looks like one of those "Slap Wrap" slap bracelets kids used to wear in the 90s. Flexibility is one thing that makes it differ from conventional smart phones. Made of OLED, it can keep all the features of a smart phone available while adding the extra advantage of turning into a bracelet.
This new DYA phone brings a whole new meaning to the world slider. DYA phone has an unique design that uses diagonal cut and become compact when not in use. But it is large enough for any other basic function you need.
